The Best Types of Content for Each Stage of the Marketing Funnel
If you’ve ever felt unsure about what kind of content to post, it might be because you’re trying to talk to everyone, all at once.
And while the easiest goal is to say that you want to appeal to as many people as possible, the smartest goal is to appeal to one specific group at a time based on which stage in the marketing funnel you’d like to focus on.
The marketing funnel maps out your potential client’s journey from discovering your brand and business, to becoming loyal customers, and while the marketing funnel usually focuses on 4 stages, I have seen some with others. For the sake of consistency, let’s stick with 4 today.
Stage 1: Awareness / Discovery
Goal: Reach new people and help them understand what you do or your purpose.
Content ideas for this stage:
reels or short videos of a trend that aligns with your brand and purpose.
Remember to that it does more bad than good to jump on a trend that doesn’t have anything to do with you.
educational posts - “how to” or “did you know” posts about something in your industry
answering FAQs about your business or industry
join in on collaborations! Create a collab post that you think your audience will like
Key idea here: Keep the content clear, shareable, and helpful. We’re introducing your brand for the first time!
Stage 2: Interest & Consideration
Goal: We’ve introduced ourselves, let’s keep that curiosity growing and start building trust!
Content ideas for this stage:
Behind the scenes content - the process behind your work, the team behind the dish, etc.
client testimonials
deeper educational content
Key idea here: We’re here to share proof of what you do and build relationships with them, we’re not selling.
Stage 3: Conversion
Goal: Encourage them to take action!
Content ideas for this stage:
Promotional Posts - clearly outline your offer and how they can receive it
Limited-time only deals
answer FAQs to make sure they know exactly what to do
Key idea here: Make content that is clear, simple, and builds their confidance as a decision maker.
Stage 4: Loyalty & Advocacy
Goal: Keep your community engaged and turn customers into advocators for your business.
Content Ideas:
Customer appreciation posts
repost customer content
client spotlight
Key idea here: Making sure you nurture relationships after the sell ensures your community is sustainable and community focused.
And there you have it! Each stage of the funnel plays a different role, but together, they create a seamless story that builds awareness, earns trust, and keeps your community coming back for more.
When you plan content with intention and strategy, you post for reach and guide people towards real connection.
