What to Post When You Don’t Know What to Post

I know you stare at your screen sometimes wondering what the heck you’re going to post next. I know because even though content creating and social managing is my job, this happens to me quite often. And if you’re a small business owner juggling your own content and running your business, I know this problem can feel even worse for you.

But why do we feel stuck in the first place?

With an infinite amount of inspiration for content and the pressures of being original, the content creation process can make you overthink and overwhelm you. And when you’re busy tending to other responsibilities for your business, sometimes the energy required to create just isn’t fully there.

So, let’s get unstuck together and figure out the ways you can show up when you’re low in energy. (Because content creating requires A LOT of energy sometimes.)

3 Things You Can Post When You Don’t Know What to Post

1.Share something you’ve already said. In other words, repurpose topics and content that you’ve already shared.

  • Change the format - turn a carousel into a reel, or a reel into carousel post. Make a blog entry into a social media post.

  • Re-focus the topic - Look through your past posts and re-read your captions.

    • i.e. Is there something there that you can use? Maybe you gave a list of the top 5 customer favorite products or dishes. Try focusing on 1 product.

If you’re worried about people thinking you’re a topic repeater, don’t worry. Most people don’t see your post the first time anyways, plus people need to be reminded often for them to really get the right idea into their minds.

2. Answer a question that your audience may not even know they have.

You know your products best. And if you’ve been around long enough, I’m sure you see a reoccurring theme in questions that your customers have.

  • Answer commonly asked questions

  • Give insight on categories

    • i.e. Do you have Vegan or Vegetarian options? What are your “Best Sellers” under $50. Where do you source your ingredients?

With this, you’ll be solving questions even before they come up!

3. Take inspiration from your current journey.

  • Are you in the middle of creating something new?

  • Has there been a current roadblock that you’ve been trying to maneuver for the past 4 weeks?

  • Are you being affected by current or local activities or news?

This is a more personal approach to your content, and might be a great way to share with your community on what’s been on your mind as small business owner.

Some days, you just don’t have it in you to spend x amount of time and energy and that’s okay! Hopefully with these ideas, you’ll be able to post something meaningful and intentional with ease.

🍊 Good luck and I’ll see you next week!
